STUDY UPDATE

It’s been quite some time since I have updated this blog.

When I created it, I hoped it would motivate me to self study more, and though I have continued self studying (I am also currently taking classes), I haven’t used this to it’s potential, and what I had originally created this for:

1.     Motivate and keep track of my self study process

2.     Create a place for other Self Study students to find new resources and to hopefully motivate them, as well.

Well, I have decided to start a 100 day challenge with myself, and I hope to begin using this blog more. My goal is to update it everyday with either notes, what I studied, helpful resources, etc. I truly believe if I can stick to studying at least a little bit everyday…by May I will have grown my Korean language skills. No more messing around!!

Today marks 1/100….Update to come later tonight.

And if I fail to do so…I am going to kick myself in the butt ahaha

Korean Grammar in Use [Textbook Review]

Today we are reviewing Korean Grammar in Use textbooks. This book is a series of 3, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. The beginner book covers ALL grammar used in TOPIK levels 1-2, while the Intermediate book covers ALL grammar in TOPIK levels 3-4, and advanced covers ALL grammar in TOPIK levels 5-6. *Previous TOPIK levels*

What I really like about these books is unlike most language books, they focus only on grammar points. They don't throw listening, grammar, reading and vocabulary lists at you all at once. They separate the grammar points into groups according to what they are used for. They offer great descriptions on how the grammar point is used and what grammar it is similar to in English.

 It gives you short conversation using the grammar and then offers you some practice problems to use them. I really really like these books, because it lets you focus on one part of a language the most. If you are comfortable with vocabulary, but need to focus solely on grammar, than this is the book for you! I was so happy when I first found this series.

My name is Whitney (휘트니). I am a lover of language and travel. 

I first created 공부 cafe as a way for myself to keep track of my Korean language study, but also as a way to motivate myself to stick to a self studying schedule. 

However, I want to share my studying journey with other language learners, and hope to not only motivate, but also help other people who may need a push (like myself ^^) along the way! 

A bit of my studying history.....
I began studying Korean on my own 6+ years ago, and taught myself the writing system within a few days. Since then my studying has included years of self studying and some formal classes. I studied abroad in Korea for a year, where I pushed myself to study for the first level of TOPIK (Test of proficiency in Korean) and successfully scored a Level 2. Now as a few years have gone by, I hope to not only continue taking TOPIK, but to become comfortable in Korean.
